Bryn’s Colour Garden is our dedicated outdoor classroom, designed to provide a calm, nurturing and supportive environment where pupils can develop their emotional wellbeing, social skills and confidence.
As highlighted in our Estyn report, “The school is a highly inclusive learning community. Staff place a high priority on the well-being of pupils. The care, support and guidance provided supports pupils to engage fully with their learning experiences and to develop as confident members of the school community.” Bryn’s Garden plays a key role in bringing this vision to life.
Set within a natural and peaceful space, Bryn’s Garden offers a flexible and responsive approach to learning. Activities and interventions are led by pupils’ individual interests, helping them to feel safe, relaxed and engaged. This child-centred approach encourages pupils to take ownership of their experiences while accessing support tailored to their needs.
A range of interventions take place in Bryn’s Garden, including:
- ELSA (Emotional Literacy Support Assistant) sessions – supporting pupils to understand and manage their emotions, build resilience and develop positive relationships.
- Construction Club (Lego Therapy) – helping pupils to develop communication, teamwork and problem-solving skills through structured, collaborative play.
- Drawing and Talking Therapy – providing a safe space for pupils to express feelings and experiences through drawing, supported by a trained adult.
- Literacy support sessions – offering a relaxed environment to build confidence and engagement in reading and writing.
- Social and emotional development groups – focusing on friendship skills, self-esteem, emotional regulation and wellbeing.
- Check-ins and nurture time – giving pupils regular opportunities to talk, reflect and feel supported throughout the school day.
Bryn’s Garden plays a vital role in supporting pupils’ mental health and wellbeing. By placing children’s interests at the heart of all activities and interventions, we foster engagement, confidence and a sense of belonging. This personalised approach enables pupils to build positive relationships, feel ready to learn and thrive both in and out of the classroom.
These are the interventions that we can offer.
