As we enter the new year we find ourselves in a fortunate position, that our Foundation Learners numbers are growing. This is excellent news for the school, however, in order to make the environment more conducive to learning especially for the more focused tasks we will be expanding our provision areas.
Mrs Morris and Mrs Devitt have been working hard to plan for the changes to these provision areas to ensure progression through each of the year groups.
Provision has been expanded to three main areas. The classroom will be referred to as Celyn, the hall will be referred to as Derwyn and the outdoor area will be referred to as Yr Ardd. Over the holidays we will rearrange all three areas. Pupils will move across all three areas throughout the day, thus reducing the amount of children in the classroom space. The classroom environment will be quieter enabling more focused tasks to take place. The outdoor environment is so important for children’s experiential learning, health and wellbeing so groups of children will be working outdoors daily on challenges. Activities in the hall will focus on gross motor skills and PE.
As the provision areas have been altered we have also had to alter some routines.
From Wednesday January 10th ALL Nurserychildren will need to come to the hall door (near the road) to enter school. They will be greeted at the door at 8.55am. All other year groups will enter from the yard as usual. They will need to be collected from this door at 11.25 am.
PE for all Foundation Learners will be every other Thursday .
Outdoor Learning for Reception – Year 2 will be every other Thursday so children will need to come to school in their forest clothes.
Nursery pupils will be outdoors on a Friday morning so will need to come to school in forest clothes.
All children will need a hat, scarf and gloves.
We will be arranging an open afternoon for you to come and see the new provision areas in the new year.
I am sure you will support us during this exciting time.
We can now show you a sneak preview of what we have been creating in Derwyn and what our Nursery provision looks like at Ysgol Licswm.
As you can see there are lovely areas set out for imaginative play, a comfortable cozy corner for reading and enjoying books.
We have areas for mark making, drawing and crafts.
Home corner is very popular with our pupils.
We have wooden building blocks to enhance their problem solving skills and playing with the array of wooden toys we have, improves their motor skills.
There are lots of natural wooden loose parts to encourage their counting skills.
