ECO School

Eco-Schools in Wales focus on 9 important environmental topics that help schools become more sustainable and eco-friendly. These topics guide pupils to take action and make a real difference in their school and community.

  1. Litter
Encourages everyone to reduce, reuse, and recycle waste. Pupils work on litter picks and awareness campaigns to keep the school and local area clean.
  2. Waste
Focuses on cutting down waste by reusing and recycling materials, and learning how to be more resourceful.
  3. Transport
Promotes walking, cycling, car-sharing, and using public transport to reduce pollution and carbon emissions.
  4. Healthy Living
Supports physical and mental well-being through healthy eating, exercise, mindfulness, and outdoor learning.
  5. Energy
Encourages schools to reduce energy use, save money, and lower their carbon footprint by turning off lights and using energy-efficient systems.
  6. Water
Teaches pupils about the importance of saving water and preventing water pollution, including how to use water wisely.
  7. Biodiversity
Focuses on protecting nature and wildlife through activities like planting trees, creating bug hotels, and looking after school gardens.
  8. School Grounds
Improves outdoor spaces to make them greener, more welcoming, and better for learning and wildlife.
  9. Global Citizenship
Encourages understanding of global issues like climate change, fair trade, and equality, helping pupils become responsible global citizens.

This year, our school has made great progress in becoming more eco-friendly by focusing on improving our school grounds and biodiversity. With support from the Keep Wales Tidy packages, we created a food garden where we grow our own fruit and vegetables, and a wildlife garden to support insects, birds, and other local species. These projects have helped us connect with nature and learn how to care for our environment. We have also looked closely at how to be more sustainable by learning about water conservation, the impact of climate change, and the importance of the 3 Rs – Reduce, Reuse, Recycle. Through these efforts, we’re working together to make our school a greener and more responsible place.
